Reconstruction of Hidden Representation for Robust Feature Extraction

چکیده
This paper aims to develop a new and robust approach to feature representation. Motivated by the success of AutoEncoders, we first theoretical summarize the general properties of all algorithms that are based on traditional Auto-Encoders: 1) The reconstruction error of the input or corrupted input can not be lower than a lower bound, which can be viewed as a guiding principle for reconstructing the input or corrupted input. 2) The reconstruction of a hidden representation achieving its ideal situation is the necessary condition for the reconstruction of the input to reach the ideal state. 3) Minimizing the Frobenius norm of the Jacobian matrix has a deficiency and may result in a much worse local optimum value. 4) Minimizing the reconstruction error of the hidden representation is more robust than minimizing the Frobenius norm of the Jacobian matrix. Based on the above analysis, we propose a new model termed Double Denoising Auto-Encoders (DDAEs), which uses corruption and reconstruction on both the input and the hidden representation. We demonstrate that the proposed model is highly flexible and extensible. We also show that for handling inessential features, our model is more robust than Denoising Auto-Encoders (DAEs). Comparative experiments illustrate that our model is significantly better for representation learning than the state-of-the-art models.

Performance of speech recognition systems is greatly reduced when speech corrupted by noise. One common method for robust speech recognition systems is missing feature methods. In this way, the components in time - frequency representation of signal (Spectrogram) that present low signal to noise ratio (SNR), are tagged as missing and deleted then replaced by remained components and statistical ...
متن کاملContourlet-Based Edge Extraction for Image Registration
Image registration is a crucial step in most image processing tasks for which the final result is achieved from a combination of various resources. In general, the majority of registration methods consist of the following four steps: feature extraction, feature matching, transform modeling, and finally image resampling. As the accuracy of a registration process is highly dependent to the fe...
متن کاملFeature extraction of hyperspectral images using boundary semi-labeled samples and hybrid criterion
Feature extraction is a very important preprocessing step for classification of hyperspectral images. The linear discriminant analysis (LDA) method fails to work in small sample size situations. Moreover, LDA has poor efficiency for non-Gaussian data. LDA is optimized by a global criterion. Thus, it is not sufficiently flexible to cope with the multi-modal distributed data. We propose a new fea...
متن کاملAmplitude Modulation Maps for Robust Speech Recognition
Two recognition tasks are discussed in which pre-processing based on amplitude modulation (AM) maps is compared with other feature extraction strategies. In the first task we show how the AM map representation can be used to segregate voiced speech signals from one another. The second shows how the AM representation can be used for robust digit recognition in additive noise. Natural vowels from...
متن کاملRobust Facial Expression Recognition Using Spatially Localized Geometric Model
An efficient, local image-based approach for extraction of intransient facial features and recognition of four facial expressions from 2D image sequences is presented. The algorithm uses edge projection analysis for feature extraction and creates a dynamic spatio-temporal representation of the face, followed by classification through a feed-forward net with one hidden layer. A novel transform f...
